Digital marketing and social media marketing has always been used as a new generation of marketing techniques. But, are they really invincible? Let’s talk about that in this post.

For sure social media marketing is a low cost and effective method for a quick and easy way to reach out to your target audience to promote your brand. But… nothing is invincible in this world.
The couple of flaws of social media marketing are as follows.

  1. Social Media marketing is time consuming.
It takes constant effort and energy to keep your social media account active to reach out to your target audience and also reply to customers’ feedback. This is a on-going work to keep your account active so that your followers are aware of new updates instead of just having a dead account.
  2. Hard to define ROI.
ROI is useful for a company to check if they are doing a right technique of marketing so that they can improve on their next marketing move. But Social media technique makes it difficult to check on your ROI as it does not have solid information of your reach and impression.
  3. It might generate negative feedback.
Though it might be useful, but it might also cause negative responses as it is a free for all feedback platform. A small error in your update might cause a bad review for your company and hence affect it badly.

So, although it might be a pretty efficient way to give your company as boost to brand awareness, it does have some negative effects to it. Just like how this blog post might be able to reach out to some people like you reading right now, you might not agree to what I’m saying and feel that it is all nonsense!

Legal and Ethical issues; spamming, privacy and fake stuff

Legal and Ethical issues in Digital Marketing. How complicated is it? Or should I say, how simple is it?

Image result for judge gif

Every post on social media or any online platform that a company publish, they should be socially responsible or ethical or else they might face legal implications! But all these can simply be handled with a simple disclaimer. The marketing team should always be cautious about these simple ethical standards to prevent harms towards the company or brand. ๐Ÿ™‚

Spamming, Privacy and Fake Stuff

These three aspect in Digital Marketing are important as they can either help boost your brand image, or destroy it completely.

Spamming –
A good post by a company into any social platform can actually help them in promoting their brand product or image. But…. if the company actually abuse the promotion and re-share the same post over too many times on-site, it might be perceived as a spam and result into a bad image for the company.

Privacy –
Have you ever wondered that your personal data has been stolen? Or felt that your have breached someone’s privacy while looking at their profile online?
There are often times you see some adverts for free stuff or like scams where they say you are their 1,000,000th visitor in their site and wants to give you money but needed your personal details in order to go through with transaction, those are probably a scam where you should avoid and stay away. Never give away your personal details to any anonymous sites just because they say “YOU ARE A WINNER!!!”
You can just be their next target for their privacy intrusion!

Fake Stuff-
Come across a time where you see Adidas Yeezys going at 90% off its retail price? Feeling tempted to get it? Or bought an item online and found out that its fake only after making payment and receiving the item?
There are so many fake stuff online nowadays and people always fall for their trap due to the attractive price stated.
Always clarify and check the product you are getting for its authenticity before making any transaction. Fake stuff are everywhere online lately. Do not fall into their trap just because you want to save a little from your purchase!!!

Digital Marketing Campaigns
What comes into your mind when you hear about Digital Marketing? Is it online marketing? Social media marketing? Or even traditional marketing?
Truth to be told, it is a mixture of everything.

There a several types of ways to do digital marketing.
1. Content Optimization
2. Social Media
3. Website Optimization
4. Television Advertising
5. Speaking engagements and Networking
6. Direct Mail
7. Cloud Technology in Marketing

These are just a few popular methods in Digital Marketing. Of course, there are more than just these few methods.

Which is better and what works best?
Depending on your company’s aim and target market, you should focus on different type of marketing approach to hit on different market.
For example, if your company’s target market is towards youngsters and young adults, you should probably use a Social Media approach as they are more tech-savvy and are often in the Social Media world.
In another case, if you are looking to target on users ranging from 45 years old and above, you might want to consider Television Advertising or Direct Mail Advertising as they will be more likely to see the ads in those platforms rather than the others.

In simple terms, IMC is simply combining different types of marketing techniques together to form a stronger marketing strategy.

What’s so good about IMC?
IMC has its own perks and benefit compared to other forms of marketing techniques.
IMC increases company’s profitability by its increased effectiveness. By having its marketing branched out, it is able to hit a wider market as compared to other marketing techniques.
Not only that, IMC will promote a consistent message to the market and hence their advertisement will seem more reliable and customers or consumers will have a better trust in them.

Of course, there are some flaws in IMC. Nothing is perfect.
IMC requires more effort to be invested as compared to traditional marketing techniques. On top of that, IMC will also need different departments to come together to agree that they want to use the same technique to promote their idea or their respective product. If there were to be any dispute between each department, it will cause a failure in IMC.

SEO and paid search marketing. Digital analytics

Firstly, let’s talk about the difference between Search Engine Optimization(SEO) and Paid Search Marketing.
SEO mainly uses the optimization for words that searchers use when they are browsing through sites.
Paid Search Marketing is a paid marketing technique that websites pays search engines to have their site appearing on the top of the search when users type in the key words.

adwords vs seo

Firstly, let’s talk about the difference between Search Engine Optimization(SEO) and Paid Search Marketing.
SEO mainly uses the optimization for words that searchers use when they are browsing through sites.
Paid Search Marketing is a paid marketing technique that websites pays search engines to have their site appearing on the top of the search when users type in the key words.

So which is better?

Image result for thinking gif

When a site is new and wants to garner more views and attention, I personally believe that Paid Search Marketing will be a better choice as it allows your site to be the top of the search as compared to SEO which only comes after Paid Search Marketing.
This advantage also comes with a price as for every click that you earn from the search engine, you will be charge for a small price.

As for SEO, I personally feel that this method will be more suited for matured sites that has regular updates and if the site is regularly active, the search engine will deem that the site is in use. That way, having SEO as your main search method will be sufficient. Not only that, SEO is FREE!!

On top of that, if your company is having a special promotion for a short time frame and you are looking to attach a higher crowd into your site, you can also consider using Paid Search Marketing technique as time is an important factor for your site during that time. With the help of Paid Search Marketing, you also highly boost the visit rate of your site and boost sales volume!!

So… this is my point of view between SEO and Paid Search Marketing! Do you agree with what I’ve said? Or do you have a different point of view regarding this marketing technique?

The Internet of Things & Big Data

Image result for iot and big data

What is Internet of Things?
IoT refers to objects that are linked together by internet. “Things” can also refer to a person or any digital device that is connected to a IP address.

What is Big Data?
Big Data are extremely large files or data that are used to analyze patterns, trends, or even human behavior and interactions.

How are they co-related?
IoT devices will firstly gather all data needed which then form Big Data. Following that, all the data collected then be compiled and segregated into different factors, Volume, Velocity and Variety.
As they are all using the same database, it will then be stored into big data files.
It will then all be used to generate analytic reports and data.

IOT Big Data Processing

Is IoT and Big Data useful?

In this modern and technology advanced world, IoT is key to connecting the world together. Smart devices are everywhere right now. For example, kids these days are already using a smart phone and TVs or cars have already been introduced to smart functions. These are all part of having IoT in their daily use. Without a strong connection to keep them together, the world might have not been as advanced as it is now.

Big Data is another important part of our daily lives, IoT and Big Data are correlated, and hence they play a part in each otherโ€™s existence. Data are all kept for future references and research purposes. Which will then help to improve our knowledge about things. For example, a simple application like Instagram uses IoT to connect different users together and Big Data is applied where their photos are posted online for users to share with people.

Let me know what you think about this concept of IoT and Big Data! Share your thoughts in the comment sections below and I will get back to you! Maybe we can all learn something more out of sharing!

Mobile Marketing

How often do you rely on digital networks? Have you ever realised the extent of the dependency you have on the digital technologies that you own? Well, I hate to admit, but I am one of those majority of the crowd who utilise online networks all the time, be it surfing the Internet and search engines, or connecting with my friends on social platforms.

So, why is digital marketing becoming so indispensable and necessary? Imagine this: a notification goes off on our devices and in the very moment that we check them, brand awareness is already raised instantly because our minds subconsciously leave an impression on the things we see.

According to a Pew Research Center survey conducted early this annual, it was reported that 28% of American adults say they go online โ€œalmost constantly,โ€ which is an increase of 7% since 2015.

With statistics as such, it is no surprise that digital marketing will continue to thrive while the effectiveness of offline marketing will take a plunge.

Like I mentioned in the earlier part of this post, I am no stranger to utilising the search engine on the Internet, even for the most mundane and daily things. For instance, I would even make use of this function to search what to have for lunch that day. I am able to make a decision right away when the search results show as I frequently click on the top few results out of convenience. I am sure this is not something new to you, right?

That is the potential of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). Many organisations use this to their own advantage, by optimising their companyโ€™s websites to be prioritised in search engine results pages, which largely boosts the traffic that their websites receive and as a result, heightens prospect business opportunities as well as broadens their exposure.

There are three types of SEO, namely On-Page SEO, Off-Page SEO, and Technical SEO.

On-page SEO is the practice of optimizing individual web pages in order to rank higher and earn more relevant traffic in search engines. On-page refers to both the content and HTML source code of a page that can be optimised.

Off-page SEO refers to actions taken outside of your own website to impact your rankings within search engine results pages (SERPs).

Traditionally, the phrase Technical SEO refers to optimizing your site for crawling and indexing, but can also include any technical process meant to improve search visibility.
Technical SEO is a broad and exciting field, covering everything from sitemaps, meta tags, JavaScript indexing, linking, keyword research, and more.

Do you now understand why SEO, if employed accurately, will become a significant contributing factor to the success of your digital marketing?
